Statements

Special Weather Statement

Snow followed by freezing rain and showers, a short period of very mild temperatures, strong winds, and then a rapid freeze is expected. Locations: coastal Labrador. Total snowfall: 5 to 15 cm. Total rainfall: 2 to 4 mm. Maximum wind gusts: south to southwesterly 80 to 90 km/h, with locally higher gusts possible. Time span: this evening through Tuesday night. Remarks: Snow will develop over coastal Labrador later this evening then transition through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain as temperatures quickly rise above freezing on Tuesday. Afternoon highs on Tuesday will reach 10 degrees over parts of the Labrador coast. After this brief warmup, temperatures will fall sharply Tuesday night, resulting in a rapid freeze of standing water. This combination of snow, freezing rain, and showers could create difficult travel, icy surfaces, localized flooding from snowmelt, and slippery conditions as standing water rapidly refreezes. Additionally, strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 90 km/h are expected Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. Be aware of your surroundings if you are outside during the strongest winds. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
