Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

Impact Level: Moderate

Forecast Confidence: High

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. There is also a risk of a tornado. Thunderstorms have developed over the Foothills and portions of central Alberta. Thunderstorms will move eastwards towards central Alberta and are expected to reach the Edmonton area later this evening. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Large hail can cause significant damage and injury. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ABstorm@ec.gc.ca, call 1-800-239-0484 or post reports on X using #ABStorm.
