Marine Weather StatementIssued 3:31 PM NDT 24 October 2020 A trough of low pressure will approach the marine district from the
west tonight while hurricane epsilon tracks towards the Southern
Grand Banks from the southwest. Gale force to storm force
southeasterlies will spread across southern waters ahead of epsilon,
and then veer to hurricane force southwesterlies south of its track.
Strong to gale force southerlies over northern waters will diminish
to moderate and variable as the trough passes.
Strong to gale force northwesterlies will develop behind the trough
and epsilon on Sunday. Over southernmost waters the northwesterlies
will reach storm force.
Marine interests are advised that a hurricane force wind warning is
in effect for Southeastern Grand Banks - southeastern half.
Storm warnings are in effect for Southeastern Grand Banks -
northwestern half and Southwestern Grand Banks. Gale warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle - eastern half, East Coast, Belle
Isle Bank, Funk Island Bank, and the Northern Grand Banks.
At 3:30 P.M. NDT, hurricane epsilon was located near latitude 38.5
north and longitude 59.0 west, or about 550 nautical miles southwest
of Cape Race. Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 70 knots and
central pressure at 958 MB. Epsilon is moving northeastward at 11
knots and is expected to pass through the Southern Grand Banks on
Sunday as a hurricane or strong post-tropical storm.
