Marine Weather Statement
Issued 2:39 AM AST 19 January 2021 Strong northwesterlies will prevail across the district today as alow pressure system east of Laurentian Fan moves east of
Newfoundland. Colder air over the Gulf of St. Lawrence will cause
freezing spray for much of today and tonight over northernmost
waters. The northwesterlies will diminish over southwestern waters
tonight.
On Wednesday, the strong northwesterlies and freezing spray will
persist over northernmost waters as the low pressure system moves
towards the Labrador coast. Another low pressure system will deepen
southwest of Long Island Wednesday morning to lie south of West
Scotian Slope by Wednesday evening. As a result of this second low,
strong northerlies developing late in the day over southwestern
waters could possibly reach gale force over Georges Bank and West
Scotian Slope.
Marine interests are advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Cabot Strait, Northumberland Strait, Gulf-Magdalen,
Chaleur-Miscou, and Anticosti.
