By 8:00 p.m. NST tonight departing low 982 mb located east of Funk
Island Bank.
At 10:00 a.m. NST today low 1005 mb located near Anticosti Island.
By 10:00 a.m. NST Saturday low 986 mb located east of Funk Island
Bank.
At 10:00 a.m. NST Saturday trough from 986 mb low located west of
the Grand Banks.
By 8:00 p.m. NST Saturday trough from low located east of the
Grand Banks.
Marine Weather Statement
Issued 2:45 AM NST 23 January 2026 A low pressure system over the Northeast Coast of Newfoundland willcontinue northeastward to lie east of Funk Island Bank by this
afternoon. Strong to gale force southwesterlies ahead of the low will
shift to strong to gale force westerlies to northwesterlies in its
wake.
A second developing low pressure system near Anticosti Island will
track eastward across the district tonight to lie east of Funk Island
Bank by Saturday morning. Strong to gale force westerlies to
southwesterlies are expected to develop over most waters ahead of the
low tonight then to strong to gale force westerlies to
northwesterlies in its wake.
A trough from the second low is forecast to sweep across the Southern
Grand Banks late in the day on Saturday. Strong to gale force
southwesterlies will develop ahead of the trough on Saturday
afternoon and shift to strong to gale force west to northwesterlies
as the trough passes.
Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for all
waters except Strait of Belle Isle and Northeast Gulf.
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for all waters except Southeastern Grand Banks.
