Marine Weather StatementIssued 2:39 AM AST 17 January 2020 An intensifying low pressure system over East Scotian Slope will move
to lie over the Grand Banks this evening. Gale force easterlies north
of the low and gale force westerlies to its south shift to gale to
hurricane force northerlies in its wake. Diminishing winds are
expected on Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the
Marine interests are advised that hurricane force warnings are in
effect for East Scotian Slope, Banquereau and Laurentian Fan.
Storm warnings are in effect for LaHave Bank, West Scotian Slope,
eastern shore, Sable, Fourchu, and Cabot Strait. Gale warnings are in
effect for all remaining regions.
Freezing spray warnings are in effect for all waters except Georges
High waves and storm surge may affect the Southern Gulf of St.
Lawrence and Cape Breton Island today. This may cause some minor
coastal flooding and overwash on north to northeast facing shorelines
during the high tides starting near noon and ending this afternoon.
