At 3:00 a.m. NDT today quasi-stationary ridge located on a line
north-south over the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Marine Weather Statement
Issued 2:59 AM NDT 22 April 2026 A slowly intensifying low pressure system approaching from the southis forecast to pass just east of the Avalon Peninsula this afternoon,
and then track northwestwards towards the Northern Peninsula on
Thursday where it will weaken. A period of strong to gale force
northwesterlies are forecast to the west of its track. Over southern
waters winds will diminish as the low moves away, while over northern
waters winds will diminish as the system weakens.
Marine interests are advised that gale warnings are in effect for
Strait of Belle Isle - eastern half, Northeast Coast, Belle Isle
Bank, and Southwestern Grand Banks.
