Locations: north facing shorelines from Notre Dame Bay to Ferryland.

Maximum water levels: significantly exceeding high astronomical tide.

Maximum wave heights: 9 to 12 metres, breaking upon approach to shore.

Time span: continuing until early this afternoon.

Current high tide: early this morning.
Next high tide: early this afternoon.

Remarks: Higher than normal water levels along the east and northeast coasts due to 60 to 80 cm of storm surge combined with 9 to 12 m waves are expected to persist until early this afternoon. Flooding and damage to coastal infrastructure is possible, especially in locations exposed to the north.

Issued 3:00 AM NST 18 January 2020 Today Tonight and Sunday At 3:00 a.m. NST today low 956 mb located over eastern Funk
Island Bank.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Sunday departing low 956 mb located east of
Greenland.

At 3:00 a.m. NST Sunday approaching low 1007 mb located near
Cape Cod.

At 3:00 a.m. NST today ridge located over New England.
By 3:00 a.m. NST Sunday ridge located on a line northwest-southeast
over the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 2:59 AM NST 18 January 2020 An exceptionally intense low pressure system over Eastern Funk Island
Bank will move to lie northeast of the marine district today.
Storm force to hurricane force winds in the wake of the low will
diminish today and tonight as the low moves away and a ridge of high
pressure approaches from the west.

A second low will approach the marine district from the southwest on
Sunday. Gale force east to southeasterlies will develop over southern
waters ahead of the low by Sunday evening.

Marine interests are advised that hurricane force wind warnings are
in effect for East Coast - north of Cape St. Francis,
Belle Isle Bank, Funk Island Bank, and Northern Grand Banks.
Storm warnings are in effect for all remaining waters except Strait
of Belle Isle - western half, Gulf waters, Southwest Coast, and
Southwestern Grand Banks where gale warnings are in effect.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for all waters.

Marine interests are further advised that high water level warnings
are in effect for East Coast and Northeast Coast.
