Wind variable 15 to 20 knots increasing to northeast 25 this afternoon and to southwest 45 to 55 early this evening except north 35 to 45 over northwestern sections. Wind becoming west 35 to 45 late overnight then increasing to southwest 45 to 55 Saturday afternoon.

Rain or snow beginning near noon becoming snow overnight then flurries near noon Saturday. Fog banks forming near noon and dissipating this evening. Visibility 1 mile or less in fog banks and in precipitation.

Freezing spray warning in effect.

Freezing spray late overnight and Saturday except severe freezing spray over northern sections Saturday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures plus 1 falling to minus 11 to minus 3 overnight.

Issued 10:00 AM NST 16 January 2026 Today Tonight and Saturday At 10:00 a.m. NST today deepening low 983 mb located near Sable
Island.
By 10:00 a.m. NST Saturday low 947 mb located east of Labrador Sea.

Marine Weather Statement

Issued 9:59 AM NST 16 January 2026 A rapidly deepening low pressure system near Sable Island will track
northeastwards across Newfoundland today to lie just east of the
Labrador Sea Saturday morning. Gale to storm force southerlies are
expected east of the low's track with strong to gale force
northerlies to northeasterlies to it's west. Winds will then shift to
gale to storm force southwesterlies to northwesterlies as the low
passes.

Marine interests are advised that storm warnings are in effect for
all waters except Gulf waters, Northeast Coast, and Southeastern
Grand Banks where gale warnings are in effect.

Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf waters, East Coast, Northeast
Coast, Belle Isle Bank, and Funk Island Bank.
