Issued 9:30 AM NST 4 February 2023 Today Tonight and Sunday At 9:30 a.m. NST today low 950 mb located north of Lake Melville.By 9:30 a.m. NST Sunday merging low 974 mb located south of
Greenland.
At 9:30 a.m. NST today trough from low located on a line
northwest-southeast over the South Labrador Sea.
By 9:30 a.m. NST Sunday merging low 974 mb located south of
Greenland.
Marine Weather Statement
Issued 9:25 AM NST 4 February 2023 A complex and intense area of low pressure will pivot over theLabrador Sea today. A first low pressure system will track
southeastward from near Lake Melville to the Belle Isle Bank.
A trough extending from that low will intensify into a second low
pressure system over the East Labrador Sea. Both lows will then drift
southeastward tonight and move east of the marine district on Sunday.
Storm to hurricane force northeasterlies can be expected to the north
of these systems, with gale to storm force southwesterlies to their
south. Winds will shift to gale to storm force northwesterlies
tonight in their wake and further weaken to strong to gale force west
to southwesterlies throughout the day on Sunday as they depart.
Marine interests are advised that hurricane force wind warnings are
in effect for South Labrador Coast, Mid Labrador Coast, South
Labrador Sea - northern half, and East Labrador Sea. Storm warnings
are in effect for all remaining waters except Northwest Labrador Sea
- northwestern half where a gale warning is in effect.
Marine interests are also advised that freezing spray warnings are in
effect for the Labrador Sea.
