Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:
A period of very cold wind chills is expected.
Northerly winds gusting up to 50 km/h combined with air temperatures below -35 will produce extreme wind chill values near -55 tonight in Igloolik and Sanirajak.
These wind chill values will moderate slightly throughout the day as temperatures rise but the wind will remain strong. As temperatures cool again overnight, expect these extreme wind chill values to return. Blowing snow conditions are also expected on Friday.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
