Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:
A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected. The coldest wind chill values will be between minus 55 and minus 60.
Temperatures dropping to near minus 40 Celsius overnight with moderate winds will create extreme cold conditions. The coldest wind chill values are expected to persist into Monday, then a slight warming in the temperatures will occur and the winds will weaken.
Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Check on older family, friends and neighbours.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
