Storm surge warning in effect for:

  • Burgeo - Ramea

High Storm Surge levels and large waves are expected to impact the coast.

Locations: south facing shorelines from Cape Ray to Francois.

Maximum water levels: significantly exceeding high astronomical tide.

Maximum wave heights: 6 to 8 metres, breaking upon approach to shore.

Time span: Tuesday morning, a couple hours on either side of high tide.

High tide: near 10 A.M.

Remarks: Storm surge will combine with large waves and pounding surf to produce significantly elevated water levels on Tuesday, especially near the morning high tide.

High waves combined with the surge may cause damage along the coast. Coastal erosion is possible in vulnerable areas. People close to the shoreline should stay on the lookout for worsening conditions.

Storm surge warnings are issued when water levels pose a threat to coastal regions.

Wind warning in effect for:

  • Burgeo - Ramea

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Maximum gusts: southeasterly 80 km/h, except 100 along parts of the coast.

Locations: Burgeo to Connaigre.

Time span: Tuesday morning to afternoon.

Remarks: Strong southeasterly gusts Tuesday morning will ease later in the morning for the Burgeo area and early afternoon for Connaigre.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • Burgeo - Ramea

Significant rainfall is expected.

Total rainfall: 40 to 80 mm, with locally higher amounts possible.

Time span: tonight through Tuesday.

Locations: south coast of Newfoundland.

Remarks: Snow will change through ice pellets to rain overnight. The changeover will occur quickly along the coast, but more slowly inland. Rain, at times heavy, will then continue through Tuesday before transitioning to flurries on Tuesday night.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
