Statements

10:26 PM NST Sunday 16 December 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Green Bay - White Bay

Wintry mix of weather beginning Monday evening.

An intensifying low pressure system will approach from the southwest overnight on Monday, bringing a wintry mix of precipitation to Newfoundland. Precipitation will begin as snow in the south Monday evening and spread northward throughout the night. Snow is expected to transition through ice pellets to rain on Tuesday for most of the island. Strong southeasterly winds will develop over southern and western Newfoundland Monday night. The strong winds and fresh snowfall may cause blowing snow over exposed areas Monday night.

Generally, 5 to 10 cm of snow are forecast for central and western Newfoundland Monday night. The potential still exists that some areas could meet or exceed snowfall warning criteria.

Most of the Island will experience a reprieve from the messy weather on Tuesday night before precipitation and strengthening winds redevelop early on Wednesday.
