Winter storm warning in effect for:
- Trans-Canada Highway - Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass
Heavy snow changing to rain or wet snow Sunday afternoon.
Snowfall accumulation: 25 to 35 cm.
Timespan: Now through Sunday afternoon.
Other hazards: A risk of freezing rain Sunday morning. Additional 10 to 15 mm of rain Sunday evening.
Remarks: Snow will become heavier tonight due to a stagnant front in place. A risk of freezing rain is in the forecast for Sunday morning as warm air arrives. Precipitation will change to rain or wet snow Sunday afternoon. Periods of light snow are expected again Sunday night.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
The site https://shiftintowinter.ca/ reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
