Additional information: A frontal system is moving across the southern Yukon today bringing snow. Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm of snow can be expected through this afternoon. Snow will taper off this evening as the system departs. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Heavy snow and blowing snow are expected. What: - Challenging driving conditions due to rapidly accumulating snow. - 30 to 40 cm of snow in total through early Sunday. - Near-zero visibility in blowing snow. Where: South Klondike Highway and Haines Road. When: Beginning tonight and continuing through the day Saturday, and potentially into Sunday. Remarks: Heavy snow will combine with strong outflow winds to create blowing snow beginning later tonight. Snowfall rates will remain high throughout the day Saturday, while increasing outflow winds will deteriorate driving conditions even further in the afternoon. Conditions are expected to be the poorest near White Pass and south of Chilkat Pass, and improve slightly over the northern sections of the highways towards Carcross and Haines Junction. Travellers are advised to take extra caution, or delay any unnecessary travel. Travel will likely be challenging. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times.
