YELLOW WARNING - WINTER STORM

Impact Level: Moderate

Forecast Confidence: High

Snow, blowing snow, and strong winds are expected. Locations: southeastern Labrador from L'Anse-au-Clair to Cartwright, and the Trans-Labrador Highway from Crooks Lake to Cartwright Junction. Total snowfall: 20 to 30 cm. Maximum wind gusts (today): northerly to northeasterly 60 km/h. Maximum wind gusts (tonight): northwesterly 60 km/h, except 90 in the Black Tickle area. Time span: until early Saturday morning. Remarks: Snowfall rates of 2 to 5 cm are possible in some areas. Strong winds accompanying the snow will reduce visibility to near zero at times in blowing snow. Winds are expected to strengthen further out of the west after the snow ends on Saturday morning, which will combine with the fresh snowfall to cause poor visibility in blowing snow, particularly over exposed areas. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve. Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather (such as snow, freezing rain, wind and rain) are expected or occurring. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NLstorm@ec.gc.ca or post reports on X using #NLwx.
