Poor visibility in blowing dust is expected. Poor air quality and reduced visibilities in blowing dust. Dry spring conditions coupled with strong to severe westerly winds gusting over 80 km/h have begun to produce plumes of blowing dust across parts of southern Manitoba. These dust plumes will expand and intensify through the afternoon hours as the winds continue. Conditions will improve on Friday evening when the winds begin to diminish. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times. Poor air quality is expected. Avoid non-essential travel and outdoor activities. Due to poor air quality, stay inside if possible. Additional information: A strong low pressure system now over central Manitoba will produce strong westerly winds today with severe gusts. Winds will diminish late this afternoon with the passing of the surface trough. Local utility outages are possible. High-sided vehicles will be pushed around by the wind. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Secure loose objects. Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.
