SNOW SQUALL WARNING

Snow Squall Warning in effect for:
  • Bracebridge - Gravenhurst

Intense lake effect snow squall moving south of the area later this afternoon. Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with additional accumulations of 10 to 15 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 4 to 8 cm per hour. Significantly reduced visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow. Timing: Ending later this afternoon. Discussion: An intense lake effect snow band will continue to shift southward this afternoon. Westerly winds gusting to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, predominantly for exposed areas near Georgian Bay. The snow squall activity will shift south of the area by late this afternoon or this evening. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
